LETS TAKE BEAUTY BACK!

Growing up the first day of school is as big as your birthday, only coming second to Christmas in excitement, because you don't get presents. Your hair, your makeup, your clothes, your shoes, your backpack, its like your whole year and reputation rely on how you look that day.

How do you feel on the first day of school?

Of all the feelings I could feel: excitement, happiness and anxious, I felt ugly, I felt not good enough.

I grew up reading Cosmogirl every month and I never looked like the girls in the magazine. My hair was thick and curly; I never saw pretty girls with thick curly hair. Kids at school would always ask me why my hair wasn’t straight, or why I didn't wear my hair hanging down like they did, because they didn't understand that my hair doesn't do that, and that it doesn't HAVE to do that in order for me to look good. It was rare that I saw a Black girl in the magazines growing up looking like me.

Black women all over relax their hair so it can look like the women they’ve seen all their lives in magazines and television. Black women all over use bleaching creams so they can look like those pretty White women. Rappers talk about how they want light skin women with long straight hair because this is all they’ve seen all their lives.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but when everything our eyes see is controlled by 7 to 10 companies and 99% of television networks are owned by White men, we have very few visions to behold.

Advertising should give our eyes more options on what beauty is.

There are over six billion people in the world! Advertising should represent them all! We should all see a little bit of ourselves in the ads. Hair, skin color, body type, ethnicity and style should not be White all over.

Four in ten women do not feel comfortable describing themselves as beautiful. Lets change that.

Besides, if you appeal to more people you make more money anyway. =)

Cut Your Hair at Home with WAHL

I havent had my hair cut since January. Part of it is because I am too lazy to wait in the barbershop (even though it is right across the street), and part of it is because I kinda wanted to see how fast my hair would grow out. My hair grew an inch in 2 months... and I had no idea what to do with it! When your hair gets that long you need product to keep the curls defined and shiny, and although I was just rockin long locks last year, I am so over trying to shop for hair products. I am ALSO over spending money at the barbershop for a 1/2 cut all over, so I decided Id do it myself!

I went to Wal*Mart to look at reviews on some clippers and there were 2 WAHL clippers that got lots of good reviews. The one I bought is only $11 online WITH free store pick-up, at the store it cost me about $17, moral of the story, BUY IT ONLINE!

WAHL Home Products Home Pro Complete Haircutting Kit

My hair was a thick curly 1 inch afro, and Im proud to say that it is now a 1 all around and looks just as good as if my barber had done it!

It comes with EVERYTHING you need for your basic haircut, to include instructions for first timers like ME! It was EXTREMELY easy to change the heads. Very fun & easy to cut my hair! My clippers never got really hot in the time that I used it. Wasn’t extremely loud. Not too heavy or too bulky. Comes in a nice sturdy box that you can keep everything in & an apron (plastic) to cover yourself up when cutting your hair.

I definitely recommend all those who spend lots of money at the barbershop to practice at home and grab this pair of clippers.

OVERALL, for a beginner set of clippers at $11 I give this 5 stars!

If you're wondering about the fries, hashbrowns and strawberry lemonade, yes they contain animal products in them! They actually add natural beef flavor to their fries and hashbrowns and their lemonade base for their strawberry lemonade contains milk... go figure! Hope you enjoyed! If there are any other restaurants or vegan eating you'd like me to cover let me know! ;)

Claire's Sensitive Solutions for those with Metal Allerigies or Dermatitis

For those of you with metal allergies or dermatitis, I have great news for you! I do too!! Since I was a little girl I have only worn sterling silver and gold jewelry, because metal would cause my ear hole to close up, scab, and stay infected for months! I tried these sensitive solution earrings from Claire's that is not supposed to have nickel or lead in it, and I must say the 2 "gold" earrings I tried did not make my ears itch all day! The silver pair I wore gave be a bit of an itch, but no infection. So if you are like me Claire's Sensitive Solution earrings may be the solution for you! I bought all of these earrings for $1 a piece on sale!

Im so happy that I can wear cute, inexpensive earrings!

These are actually Sterling Silver studs that I wear, but I took pictures of them. LOL

Remember with fake jewelry never to stash them together like this, it will tarnish and it will not last long. Always separate your jewelry in an organized fashion! There are a few good videos on YT showing how to organize jewelry to prevent tarnishing and increase the life span of your jewelry.

What kind of earrings are you into this Spring/Summer season?
